Press Statement
Condemnation of Humanist Association of Nepal (HUMAN)
Date:
September 2, 2004
Humanist Association of Nepal (HUMAN) is deeply shocked by the barbaric
and gruesome murder of twelve innocent Nepalese by the so-called Army
of Ansar al-Sunna, an Islamic terrorist group in Iraq. In this moment
of national tragedy and grief, Humanist Association of Nepal would like
to convey the deepest sympathy, sorrow and condolence to the bereaved
families who have suffered from this mindless and barbaric act of
terrorism.
HUMAN condemns the barbaric and heinous act of crime committed against
12 innocent Nepalese and other hostages by those terrorists who
recognize no fundamental human values and norms. HUMAN believes that
this act of gruesome killing is an act of terrorism deeply rooted in
the fundamentalist ideology that threatens fundamental human values,
freedom and liberty. Nothing can justify such horrendous acts that
disregard the most precious right, the right to life. The brutality
with which the Nepalese and other hostages have been killed and the way
their execution has been displayed demonstrates the killers’ total
disregard for human life.
The cruel nature of the crime testifies that this is a crime against
humanity and this calls for the concerted efforts of all who truly
believe in protecting fundamental human values, dignity and freedom to
deal with such crimes. HUMAN urges all international humanist and human
rights organizations and the individuals to condemn such act of
barbaric atrocity.
